Yesterday (1 Aug) as I was watching the bullock's orioles in my yard, I
caught sight of a lazuli bunting perched on a fence post. This is unusual
as I live in the middle of Cache Valley, not close to the moutnains. I
think it was fleeing from the fires in the mountains above River Heights and
Providence. Anyway, I enjoyed its brief visit. I hoped there might be
others, but I didn't see any.
Also, all summer I've been keeping an eye on the nests of Western Kingbirds,
Bullocks Orioles and House Finches. I could see the mouths of the
babies craning for whatever their parents would bring to them, but
yesterday, I got a good look at some of the fledglings. I managed to get
some pictures of some of the young orioles in one of the trees in my back
yard. I counted about 6 or 7 of them. There are also around 30 house
finches, mostly females, that have left the nest, too. Since this is the
first time I've tried using Picassa Web photo albums, I can't promise this
will work, but this isi the URL to my photo album
http://picasaweb.google.com/connie.mcmanus/AugustOrioles I don't make any
claims to be ing as good a photographer as Paul Higgins and TIm Avery, but I
think you can see them fairly well.
