Lots of good stuff on the causeway today. New arrivals for me included
Wilson's phalaropes and about a half-dozen Bonaparte's gulls. The gulls
were at the first bridge. There were also lots of black-bellied plovers
as previously reported, scores of willets, and a few marbled godwits.
There were peeps, but they were too far away, even with a scope. The
usual suspects were at the visitor's center, including chukars, rock
wren, white-crowned sparrows and barn swallows. There were two coyotes
walking along the road to the buffalo corrals, and another coyote (with
a death wish) walking along the causeway kind of dodging traffic.
Coyotes have become quite a problem in some metro areas, such as L.A.
Maybe Syracuse (Utah) will start seeing some its smaller pets
disappear. Glover Lane ponds were loaded with waterfowl and waders. All
of the heron nests appear to be occupied. Pelicans and cormorants were
also present. And did I say there were coots, coots, coots, and more
coots?
