I went to Lytle Ranch this morning and there were amazing numbers of migrants there. The best birds were a Broad-winged Hawk that I flushed out of the trees along the creek to the west of the entrance gate and a Golden-crowned Sparrow that was coming into the water drip behind the restrooms. It took me almost 3 hours just to bird around the parking area and the area along the creek to the west. A lot of Empids mostly Hammond's ( more Hammond's than I've ever seen in one small area before 20 + ) quite a few Gray's and Dusky's. 2 Westerns and one was giving a perfect Pac Slope call. But I guess that and 99 cents will get you a double cheeseburger at McDonalds. Unless your in Arizona. 30 to 40 Western Kingbirds and 1 calling Cassin's were in the trees around the parking area. There was at least 6 or 7 Cassin's Vireos and 3 or 4 Plumbeous and couple Warbling along with the Bell's that have been around. 6 species of Warblers and another that looked like a Tennessee but it was high in the trees and I couldn't get a good look at it before I lost it in the crowd. Hermit Thrush's,Gnatcatchers and Kinglets seemed to everywhere. At the Hummingbird feeders there was a male Rufous along with hoards of Black-chinned and Costa's.I would have stayed there all day there was so much to look at but the wind started to blow by 10:00 and was really blowing by 11:00 and then it started to rain.I'm going back tomorrow if the weather cooperates.Larry Tripp
