Here's your daily Pacific Golden-plover report. This morning the plover was one reflective post west of mm 5, north side of the causeway along the border between weeds and mudflat that it prefers.
Later this afternoon, MarJean Muhlestein and I tried to find the bird there and we were unsuccessful. We did, however, find two beautiful breeding plumage Black-bellied Plovers on the far edge of the first wide strip of water that borders the mud.
The funniest thing happened shortly after my first sighting of the plover this morning. I passed the spot a second time to see an SUV pulled up near the reflective marker and a scope on a window mount pointed in the direction of the plover. I figured I knew the birders and would stop to gossip with them about the bird. Not only did I not know this couple (they were vacationing from Virginia), they hadn't heard about the plover, weren't looking at it in their scope and didn't know they had pulled up at the bird's exact location.
We re-found the bird; it was a lifer for them.
Kris
