Late this afternoon I spent several hours at Sugarhouse Park photographing the
California Gulls, Mallards, and Canada Geese. There were nearly 200 geese
present including several parvipes type. After looking the birds over flock by
flock I noticed one goose with a stubbier bill on the southside of the pond. I
spent some time looking at the bird trying to decide if it was a parvipes with
an extremely stubby bill. Any opinions on this bird would be appreciated as I
will not say with 100% ceratinty that this bird is a Cackler, only that it was
definately "cackling"-type. Of the Cackling Goose I have seen in the past this
bird taked the cake for the most intermediate bill. Here is a picture:

Any thoughts are welcome, please post publicly so others can be involved
especially with the winter months coming up and the arrival of these birds in
the state.
