Thanks to Arnold Smith and his gracious neighbors, the Potters in Morgan, Morgan County, for allowing our birding community to watch the PROTHONOTARY WARBLER. I spoke with Arnold tonight and he said many people have visited and have seen the bird.
As a group, we have the capability to overwhelm the non-birding community with our enthusiasm over such a rarity. It would be best henceforth for the sake of peace in the neighborhood for additional visitors to refrain from entering the Potter's yard at 773N. 700E. For those of you still planning to visit, the good news is that you're welcome to enter Arnold's yard at 796N. 700E. It's also OK to look into the Potter's yard from the adjoining cemetery or street frontage.
The bird has spent more time in the Potter's side yard and behind the side yard in the garden foraging for grapes. Both places are on the cemetery side. In addition, the warbler is feeding on aphids in the sparse hedge that stretches to the road next to Arnold's driveway. The warbler has also been seen along the opposite side of Arnold's yard, the east side. If warbler-chasers need to enter Arnold's back yard, that's fine, too.
Please call Arnold in advance of your visit on his cell phone number at (801) 791-5390, and reply to me for directions to get there.
Kris
