If you would like an opportunity to study a Trumpeter Swan up close, stop by the Layton City park just North of Gentile and West of Fort Lane in Layton. There is a Trumpeter Swan there, along with a Mute Swan, Hooded Maerganser, Wood Ducks and a variety of other waterfowl. The birds are quite habituated to people feeding the ducks and geese in the park and stream running through it. The Trumpeter will allow a very close approach, especially if you have a bag of cracked corn in hand.
