Thanks to Colby for getting the post out about the gull this morning. I arrived
at Lee Kay around 9:30 and found the bird at 9:35 on the west end of the MAIN
pond. It was standing on the edge of the ice preeening and sleeping. I got
Jack on the bird and after watching it for a short itme he took off. I watched
and photographed the bird for about an hour when a Peregrine Falcon flew over
and scattered all the birds. As tehy filtered back in and settled about 15
minutes later, a Red-tailed Hawk flew over and the birds all took to wing
again. Colby and Steve Carr arrived shortly after this and we split up to scan
the gulls to try to relocate the bird. With nothing seen by noon I took off.
I am positive with enough effort this bird will continue to be seen at this
location at least for a short period. This species is about the size of a
Herring Gull, with a mantle slightly darker than the California Gulls, and a
massive bill. Yesterdays pictures can be seen here:

I snapped a 150 more pictures this morning, but am not sure they can add to what
I took yesterday. Also of interest were a number of THAYER's GULLS, at least 5
adults and 2 or 3 - 1st Winter birds, including the extreemly pale bird I
photographed yesterday.
